Botulinum Toxin for strabismus

Botulinum toxin was first used to weaken eye muscles in 1979. Since that time much research has been done on the safety and applications for this medicine. It has been found that there are many instances of Squint (Strabismus or crossed eyes) where application of Botulinum toxin (Botox - Allergan) can be of great benefit. Dr. Andrew Budning

Since finishing his fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus in 1992, Dr. Budning has had the opportunity to excel and demonstrate excellence in this subspecialty, along with maintaining great expertise in general ophthalmology and Cataract surgery . He has established a national and international presence in the management of Retinoblastoma, Coats’ disease and strabismus. In the case of Coats’ disease he has published one of the largest most complete studies to date, including the most innovative and effective treatment yet described.

            Dr. Budning has demonstrated excellence in teaching at the graduate and postgraduate levels in all areas of pediatric ophthalmology. He has provided a great deal of insight thought and perspective in his lectures; which have formed part of the University or Toronto core lecture series.

            Dr. Budning has played and continues to play an important clinical teaching and research role in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Additionally He has demonstrated a great deal of expertise and resourcefulness when decisions were required in the areas of technology, optics, and ophthalmic technology.
